With effect from January 2011, it is now mandatory for all premises with a combined cooling output of 12Kw or more to have an Air Conditioning Inspection Certificate.

Systems have to be inspected at least once every five years. Systems installed on or after January 2008 must have their first inspection within five years, whilst older systems must have had their first inspection before January 2011. For all older systems over 250 Kw they must have had their first inspection before January 2009.

Your local authority is responsible for enforcing the requirements of the Air Conditioning Inspection Certificate. If your air conditioning falls under the scope of this requirement, you must be able to provide an Air Conditioning Inspection Report within 7 days of the request being made. Failure to do so could result in a penalty charge notice being issued.

Failure to commission, keep or provide a report when required by an enforcement officer is also an offence which could incur further penalties.
